This European standard replaces the previously known German DIN 32617 standard. The main purpose of this standard is to recommend a size for both the letterbox itself and its slot. According to DIN, the slot should have a size of at least 230 millimetres. If you frequently receive large letters, a size of 325 millimetres is recommended. Then C4 envelopes will also fit in the letterbox.
The standard applies throughout Europe. Furthermore, the house letterbox should be theft-proof according to the letterbox standard. This is ensured by a so-called removal protection behind the slot. Letterboxes that comply with the European letterbox standard are therefore equipped in such a way that it is not possible to reach into the letterbox by hand without further ado. It is also recommended to lock the letterbox with a key. In the case of a multi-part letterbox system, each party has its own key. What quality and material requirements are there?
In addition to the size as an essential part of the standard, it also specifies the material of a good letterbox.
